Gangtok, Jun 8 (PTI) Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways, Ajay Tamta, on Monday inspected works along the 26.4-km Rangpo-Ranipool stretch of National Highway 10 in Sikkim, an official statement said.

He also reviewed the progress of the ongoing slope stabilisation and road safety works.

The MoS is on a three-day visit to the state to review road infrastructure development projects.

During the inspection, the minister assessed various infrastructure measures being implemented to improve the highway’s resilience, including micropiling, RCC retaining walls, river training works, rockfall barriers and hillside stabilisation systems, the statement said.

He also reviewed the proposed 240-metre cut-and-cover tunnel planned under the NH-10 upgradation project, aimed at enhancing road safety and reducing disruptions caused by landslides and adverse weather conditions, it said.

The ongoing initiatives are expected to strengthen connectivity, improve commuter safety, and ensure reliable all-weather access across Sikkim, benefiting residents, tourists, and transport operators alike, it added.

The MoS was accompanied by officials of the Roads and Bridges Department, National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) and Border Roads Organisation (BRO). PTI COR ACD
