Mumbai: Actor Saif Ali Khan was attacked with a knife by an unidentified intruder at his Mumbai home in the early hours of Thursday. He is currently undergoing treatment at Lilavati Hospital.
According to Mumbai Police, the intruder entered the actor’s residence, leading to an altercation during which Khan sustained injuries.
“An unidentified person intruded in the residence of actor Saif Ali Khan. The actor and the intruder had a scuffle. The actor is injured and is being treated,” the police said in a statement.
Mumbai Deputy Commissioner of Police Dixit Gedam, speaking to ThePrint, stated that the motive of the accused remains unclear.
“The unidentified individual attacked the actor with a sharp object, causing injuries. Further probe is ongoing,” Gedam said.
Speaking to the media, Gedam said, “Yesterday, around 3 am, the actor was attacked at his home…He is out of danger. Investigation and the hunt for the attacker is on. A person from his staff at the house was attacked too, she is getting treated and is fine.”
A statement from Saif Ali Khan’s team attributes the attack to an attempted robbery.
“There was an attempted burglary at Mr Saif Ali Khan’s residence. He is currently in hospital undergoing surgery. We request the media and fans to be patient. It is a police matter. We will keep you updated on the situation,” the official PR statement said.
In a statement, Dr Niraj Uttamani, Chief Operating Officer, Lilavati Hospital, said, “Saif Ali Khan He has six wounds from sharp objects like a knife etc. of which two wounds are deep and one close to his spine. A small piece of foreign body close to the spine is identified.”
He added that the actor was being operated on by Dr Nitin Dange, Consultant Neurosurgeon, Dr Leena Jain, Consultant Plastic Surgeon, Dr Nisha Gandhi, Consultant Anaesthesiologist, Dr Kavita Srinivas, Intensivist, and Dr Manoj Deshmukh, Consultant Radiologist. “The extent of the damage will be understood once the surgery is completed”.
Khan’s family is by his side at Lilavati Hospital. The actor lives with his wife, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and their two sons in an apartment at Satguru Sharan in Mumbai’s Bandra West.
