Ranchi, Jun 14 (PTI) Rohitashya Roy was on Sunday appointed the new Advocate General of Jharkhand, after the sudden resignation of incumbent Rajiv Ranjan, officials said.
Ranjan had been holding office since 2020 since the JMM-led government came to power.
No reason was cited for the sudden development.
The government appointed Rohitashya Roy as the new Advocate General of Jharkhand, according to a notification.
“Rohitashya Roy, an advocate of Jharkhand High Court, is appointed as the Advocate General for the state of Jharkhand with effect from the date he assumes charge of the office, until further orders,” it said.
Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar has accepted the resignation tendered by Ranjan, officials said.
After Ranjan’s resignation, the BJP hit out at the JMM-led government, alleging that a game of “musical chairs” was underway in the state, where the future of anyone holding a constitutional post is insecure.
“The government may try to conceal whether Rajiv Ranjan resigned voluntarily or was forced to do so under pressure, but the people of the state understand the entire sequence of events,” BJP state spokesperson Ajay Shah said in a statement.
Demanding a white paper on Ranjan’s tenure, Shah added, “The government should clarify why the advocate general resigned if his tenure was satisfactory, and why he was retained in the post for such a long time if it was not.” PTI SAN COR NN RBT
