New Delhi: Actor Rhea Chakraborty has finally spoken out on the numerous allegations being made against her for the death of her boyfriend and actor Sushant Singh Rajput by apparent suicide.
Chakraborty gave an exclusive interview to Rajdeep Sardesai for India Today TV, which will be telecast in full at 7 pm Thursday.
Since Rajput’s death on 8 June, the couple’s trip to Europe in October 2019 has come under the scanner. In the interview, Chakraborty noted that this is when she first found out that he was taking medication.
“The day we were leaving for our Europe trip, he told me and his friends and family that he is afraid of flying because he is claustrophobic. This is when he told us he takes a medicine that makes him feel better — modafinil. That medicine was always with him and he took it before the flight took off,” Chakraborty said.
Upon landing in Paris, she claimed Rajput did not leave the hotel room for three days. “He was very excited to go to a new country where no one would recognise him. He was doing better when we reached our second destination — Switzerland,” she said.
It was on the third leg of their trip, in Italy, when his condition really deteriorated, Chakraborty claimed. “We stayed in a gothic hotel — there was a dome-type structure in our room which had weird pictures and that scared me. Sushant was okay with it, but that night he didn’t sleep. I suggested we should check out from here but he didn’t listen. After that, his condition deteriorated,” she stated.
Chakraborty went on to add that this was the first time she had learnt of his condition. “He told me he had had a depressive episode in 2013, which is when he met a psychiatrist — Mr Haresh Shetty — who prescribed him modafinil. After that he was okay, barring a few anxiety attacks. But when we were in Italy, it was getting really bad so we had to cut short our trip and bring him back home,” she said.

Chakrabortys ‘living off’ Rajput’s money
Chakraborty’s brother Showik was also present on the trip, and when asked about this, she said: “Sushant and my brother were very close. My brother joined our trip in Florence after Sushant insisted.”
Chakraborty claimed the three of them were equal partners in a company called Rhealityx. “To be partners, the three of us had to deposit Rs 33,000 each. I transferred that amount to my brother’s account because he doesn’t earn,” she said.
Sardesai then quizzed Rhea Chakraborty about allegations that she and her family were living off Rajput’s money, to which she said: “I was not living off of his money; we were living like a couple.”
“He had gone for an all-boys’ trip to Thailand, where he spent Rs 70 lakh as well as taking a private jet. These were his lifestyle choices. Who are you to tell him how to live his life? He lived like a king and he loved it,” she said, adding that nobody questioned the boys’ trip the way she was being questioned.
She also dismissed allegations that she had cut Rajput off from his family in December 2019 as “baseless”. Asked about hiring a new staff team for Rajput’s house, she said: “His house manager was hired by his sister. I did not know any of the staff members who worked at his house — all of them were working for him since before I came into his life.”
Chakraborty was also asked about Sandip Ssingh, a man who claims to be a friend of Rajput and has been speaking to television channels making allegations against her. To this, she said: “I have no idea who Sandip Ssingh is. Where was he the past year and a half? I never heard of him nor has he ever come over. I doubt there will be any mention of him in Sushant’s call log.”

Unfortunately she has become the most burning problem of the country now. To think her father served in armed services and gave his best years for the country makes it more unfortunate.
Fine interview. It is evident her lawyer has sketched out a few No go areas – which is his professional obligation to his client – and asked her to speak with candour on everything else. Whether someone has tried out drugs is not the focus of this investigation. If they find nothing else, they will try to show she evaded customs duty on her lingerie when she returned from a foreign trip. How SSR died, focus on that.
Hope she will not be a victim of mob justice. Trust CBI will act in a professional manner.
Rajdeep Sardesai will be happy to hear this cock and bull story. Not CBI.
Whatever maybe the case, we are enjoying such a great se xu al pleasure everyday in disrobing a girl in the TV channels. After all it is our own Hind utva culture.
Hindutva or not, people always enjoyed gladiatorial flights in the arena and burning of people in the stake. SATI was our equivalent.
Fights
That’s not cool! And what’s the point of taking dead people? If it is no leaning towards the criminal side, then the family of both live-in couples fault.
Changing the house manager because the dead person sister appointed, the one who is saying still not have a marriage certificate. Is she trying to erase dead person famil altogether?
Dead person sister should know before this will going to happen; she should have a backup plan to resolve these kinds …..
Dead person family members are the primary culprits. They should know or study the behaviour of her, and they should have maneuver without insulting both live-in couples.
The Print starts its whitewash….
Whom are you trying to fool?
