Chennai, Oct 9 (PTI) Senior BJP leader and former Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan on Friday hailed the bypoll trends and election results in Puducherry, West Bengal and Assam as a resounding mandate for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s development agenda and welfare schemes.

She asserted that the bypoll leads, including in West Bengal’s Nandigram, demonstrated the public’s confidence in the BJP and delivered a clear rejection to those agitating against him.

The BJP on Friday dominated the West Bengal Assembly bypolls by winning the Nandigram seat and establishing an unassailable lead in Muslim-majority Rejinagar segment.

In Assam, BJP candidate Devasish Sharma achieved an unassailable lead of 1,46,180 votes over his nearest rival, AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal, as counting of votes polled in the by-election to the Nagaon Lok Sabha seat was underway, according to the Election Commission.

“People have given a mandate to our prime minister’s central government schemes. They are confident in the BJP, and there is no doubt that in 2029, the party will win the election and Modi will be the PM again,” she told PTI Videos.

Drawing comparisons between the electoral outcomes in Puducherry and Tamil Nadu, the former governor pointed out that the NDA’s winning margin in the union territory was significantly higher.

The ruling AINRC in Puducherry on Friday emerged victorious in the October 6 bypoll to Thattanchavdy here, retaining the assembly segment considered party founder and Chief Minister N Ranagsamy’s pocket borough and vacated by him post April 9 elections in the union territory.

In Tamil Nadu, the ruling TVK appeared all set to win the bypolls for the Madurantakam and Dharapuram Assembly constituencies.

Soundararajan remarked that despite Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay’s extensive campaigning, the ruling TVK secured votes only with “great difficulty.”

The senior BJP leader welcomed PM Modi’s visit to Chennai to dedicate the Metro Rail project on October 11.

“The PM stands for development. Through projects like the Metro Rail, Vande Bharat, and Amrit Bharat trains, traffic congestion is easing across the country. Even though the DMK claims credit for the Metro, it was completed only due to the steadfast support of the union government,” she said, adding that Modi would continue to bring major development works to Tamil Nadu.

Reflecting on Modi completing 25 years in public office, Soundararajan described his journey as a “God-given opportunity” dedicated entirely to the service of the nation and its people rather than personal gain.

“His rise from an ordinary karyakarta to chief minister and prime minister, free from any dynastic background, provides immense encouragement to all BJP workers. He remains a pillar of strength for the party and the nation as India advances toward the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047,” she said. PTI JR KH

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
