Jodhpur, Oct 9 (PTI) An Assistant Sub-Inspector died after suffering a suspected heart attack shortly after completing a two-kilometre run at the Rajasthan Police Training Centre here on Friday.

The run was part of a physical efficiency test for promotion to the post of Sub-Inspector.

The deceased, identified as Durga Ram Bheel (50), was a resident of Netraad village in Barmer district and was posted as an Assistant Sub-Inspector at Girab police station.

According to police, Bheel reached the training centre in Mandore around 7 am to appear for the physical test. He completed the two-kilometre race and was scheduled to take part in the remaining stages of the physical examination; however, around 8.30 am, he suddenly complained of severe chest pain.

As his condition worsened, people present at the venue rushed him to a nearby hospital. Doctors attempted cardiopulmonary resuscitation, but their efforts failed. Bheel was declared dead at the hospital. He is suspected to have suffered a heart attack during the physical test.

Police said the body has been kept in a government hospital mortuary in Jodhpur. PTI COR RUK

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
