Raipur, Oct 22 (PTI) President Droupadi Murmu arrived in Raipur on Thursday for a two-day visit to Chhattisgarh, during which she will take part in various programmes in the state capital and Jagdalpur.

Governor Ramen Deka, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and his cabinet colleagues welcomed Murmu at Swami Vivekananda Airport in Raipur, where she landed shortly after noon, a government official said.

The President left for Lok Bhavan, where she will release a commemorative coin in honour of Pujya Mata Hasi Devi Ji, he said.

She will later take part in ‘Seva Samman Parv’ and ‘Yuva Prabodhan’ on the occasion of the Nuakhai festival at Indoor Stadium, Raipur, he said.

On Friday, Murmu will attend ‘Muriya Darbar’ and address a public programme on the occasion of Bastar Dussehra in Jagdalpur, the headquarters of Bastar district.

The ‘Muriya Darbar’, regarded as a traditional tribal assembly or ‘Aadim Jan Sansad’ (primitive people’s parliament), is organised as part of the Bastar Dussehra festival, officials said.

Security has been stepped up in Raipur and Bastar, and traffic has been diverted at several locations in these districts in view of the events. PTI TKP GK

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
