New Delhi: The Rajasthan government on Friday announced a new scheme titled “Jan Samman Rajasthan”, in which citizens can participate in a video contest and stand to win cash prizes daily.

The contest asks citizens to make 30 to 120-second-long “creative” videos about various schemes started by the government, upload them to at least two different social media accounts and send the links of the posts to the website created by the government.

According to the poster circulated on the internet, participants stand to win daily prizes of Rs 1 lakh, Rs 50,000 and Rs 25,000 rupees for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd places. The poster also announced that there would be 100 participation prizes of Rs 1,000 rupees each daily.

On the Twitter page of “Jan Samman Rajasthan”, a video was posted by Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, promoting the contest. In the video, he said the “Mehengai Rahat” scheme introduced by the Congress-led government in the state had benefited 18,000,000 families till now, and the contest was a way to include the remaining 1,500,000 families in the government’s welfare schemes.

“The goal of this contest is to spread awareness about our schemes to as many people as possible, and enable the youth to be confident too,” Gehlot says in the video.

The “Jan Samman Rajasthan” Twitter account has been announcing a “surprise” for citizens this past month, encouraging them to visit the website for more details. The website also announced a “Jan Samman Certificate” with a “coming soon” banner under it.

This is not the first time the Rajasthan government has engaged with social media for political outreach. On 30 June, the Congress-led government issued a notification inviting social media influencers to post government advertisements and earn up to Rs 5 lakh a month, based on their number of followers. The state goes to polls in December this year.
