New Delhi, Oct 22 (PTI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday will inaugurate the Chinmaya Amrit Mahotsav Global Sammelan, marking the culmination of the year-long celebrations commemorating 75 years of the Chinmaya Mission.

The three-day event, being held from Friday, will bring together over 9,000 participants from India and abroad.

The prime minister will inaugurate the event and address the gathering, an official statement said.

The event marks the culmination of the year-long celebrations commemorating 75 years of the Chinmaya Mission, a global spiritual movement founded by Swami Chinmayananda in 1951 to make the wisdom of Vedanta and the Bhagavad Gita accessible to all.

Over the decades, the Mission has expanded its work across spiritual education, cultural preservation, youth empowerment and community service.

The year-long celebrations began last year with the prime minister releasing a Tamil versification of the Bhagavad Gita, produced by Chinmaya Mission with music by Ilaiyaraaja, at Gangaikonda Cholapuram in Tamil Nadu.

Several initiatives and events were organised during the year, including mass havans at multiple locations, consecration of the Maa Soundarya Chinmayi Temple in Tripura, and Chinmaya Gita Samarpanam under which over one lakh people across the world chanted the 15th chapter of the Bhagavad Gita together online.

A major initiative of the celebrations was Gita Panchamrit, centred on five select verses of the Bhagavad Gita.

To take the message of the Gita across the country, 15 young members of Chinmaya Yuva Kendra undertook the Chinmaya Amrit Yatra, travelling over 40,000 km across the country, the statement said. PTI ACB ACB KSS

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
