Thiruvananthapuram, May 10 (PTI) Outgoing Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Sunday congratulated Joseph Vijay on assuming office as the CM of Tamil Nadu and expressed hope that his government would uphold the values of social justice, secularism and public welfare.

In a congratulatory message, Vijayan said the mandate given by the people in a democracy carried immense responsibility.

He also expressed confidence that the trust reposed in Vijay by the people of Tamil Nadu would translate into a model of governance committed to inclusive and secular values.

A Politburo member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), Vijayan, also highlighted the longstanding friendship and cooperation between Kerala and Tamil Nadu and said the two southern states could work together to strengthen the federal system and protect secular principles.

Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam chief Joseph Vijay took oath as the CM of Tamil Nadu at a grand ceremony held at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai on Sunday.

Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar administered the oath of office and secrecy to Vijay and his council of ministers in the presence of several political leaders and dignitaries, including senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.

Amid loud cheers and whistles from TVK cadres, Vijay took the oath in the name of God. Members of his council of ministers also took an oath in the name of God, unlike several ministers in the outgoing DMK government, who had taken their oath in the name of conscience. PTI LGK SSK
