New Delhi: The Uttar Pradesh Police have arrested the parents of the murdered 25-year-old woman whose body was found in a suitcase abandoned in a secluded area of Mathura on 18 November.

The probe trail on Sunday had led the police to Badarpur in Delhi, where the parents of the murdered woman stayed.

Superintendent of Police Martand P. Singh had said Sunday that the woman left her Badarpur house on 17 November, a day before she was found dead.

The police believe she was killed elsewhere, before being stuffed into a suitcase and discarded in Mathura.

The woman, Aayushi Chaudhary, was allegedly killed by the father, according to an NDTV report which quoted the Uttar Pradesh Police.

The report said the father, Nitesh Yadav, apparently shot her dead, angry that she had married outside her caste.

Singh told the channel that Aayushi’s mother and brother were aware that Nitesh had killed his daughter.

Mathura’s Additional Superintendent of Police Trigun Bisen had said Saturday that there were many marks on her body, including bullet marks on her chest.

He said her “face was clearly visible” and in order to trace Aayushi’s family, her face was posted on social media.

Nobody came forward, reports said, until Sunday morning, when the police received an anonymous call about the family’s whereabouts.

The mother and brother were then shown the photographs, which they identified. The father was called for a physical identification, and arrested after thorough interrogation.

Reports said the father was angry with his daughter for defying his wishes and marrying one Chhatrapal, who is of a different caste.

The police found her body, near the Yamuna Expressway in Mathura, wrapped in a plastic sheet in a big red suitcase.

The murder weapon — a licensed gun — has been recovered, the police said.
