Lucknow: Rinku Singh Rahi, who has been in the spotlight over various controversies in the past one year, is back in the news, this time over a series of social media posts alleging corruption in the administration and targeting senior officials.
Rahi, an IAS officer currently posted as SDM (Judicial) in Jalaun, posted his allegations on X Monday and Tuesday.
On Monday, Rahi wrote to the Labour Commissioner and Transport Commissioner, alleging corruption in the outsourcing of government vehicles.
“I don’t know why, but corruption just doesn’t leave. Wherever you look, it is present. A vehicle has now been provided through outsourcing from the Jalaun Collectorate. There is tremendous corruption in this outsourcing as well,” he wrote.

On Tuesday, Rahi posted another message in which, without naming anyone, he appeared to target the district magistrate.
“Today, I spoke to a senior well-wisher, who told me some astonishing things. My boss in the district has put all his strength into destroying me, even up to Lucknow. Thank God for social media, which everyone is afraid of, otherwise, something very serious might have happened to me by now,” Rahi wrote.
He further claimed that his actions had also put his “boss” in trouble.

“Perhaps my presence has also created problems for my boss. Until now, his image was that of being number one, but after my arrival, the reality has come to light and questions have also been raised over his otherwise shining career,” he wrote.
According to sources, Rinku Singh Rahi and Jalaun District Magistrate Rajesh Pandey do not have amicable relations. Rahi is also said to be upset over his recent change in posting.
Speaking to ThePrint, Rinku said, ‘I have already stated on social media what I feel, and I stand by it. My position is clear, and I have nothing more to add. I am not seeking to invite any controversy. I have only written about the facts.’
The 2023 batch IAS Rahi was posted as SDM of Jalaun tehsil in May this year. On 23 June, he visited a cold storage facility for an inspection, during which he reportedly had a heated conversation with a block pramukh.
Following the incident, he was shifted from Jalaun tehsil and given charge as SDM (Judicial) at Orai as part of an administrative reshuffle. The development is believed to have left Rahi upset.
On 11 July this year, shortly after Rahi was transferred from his post as SDM Jalaun, a protest was organised in his support. A group of people took to the streets carrying posters in his favour and raised slogans demanding that his transfer be revoked. They called him an “honest officer”.
Allegations against transport department
In his letter to the Transport Commissioner Monday, Rahi alleged irregularities in the outsourcing system for government vehicles, claiming that middlemen and intermediaries were operating in place of service providers and that this had resulted in violations related to transport and labour.
Rahi said a Bolero vehicle had been provided on 25 August by Mainpuri’s Honey Enterprises, an outsourcing agency selected through the GeM portal by the district magistrate’s office.
He claimed that the vehicle, at first glance, appeared to lack mandatory registration-related requirements, including a yellow number plate. Despite being returned, he alleged, a similar vehicle was provided again on 27 August.
“The vehicle provided does not have a yellow number plate. If a yellow number plate is mandatory for a vehicle outsourced for government work, then its use for official purposes raises serious questions regarding compliance with transport rules and contractual conditions,” he wrote.
Rahi also alleged that drivers’ monthly wages of around Rs 6,000 remain unpaid for several months. He further alleged that tenders are awarded at low rates through collusion with government offices and that assurances are given that prescribed standards are being followed only on paper.
He demanded an inquiry into the alleged corruption and irregularities in the outsourcing process.
Past controversies
Rahi has been involved in several controversies even before his posting in Jalaun. While he was posted in Shahjahanpur as joint magistrate last year, a video of sit-ups before lawyers went viral on social media where this ususual sight of him left everyone in surprise. Though Rahi clarified that he was not forced to do sit-ups, he said there was a lack of cleanliness on the premises, and he had decided to do sit-ups to set an example.
In July this year, Rahi wrote a letter to the Uttar Pradesh Appointment and Personnel Department where he stated that, at present, he gets only about four hours of work a day in his capacity as an SDM (Judicial).
He said that until he is assigned field duties commensurate with his capabilities, he should be paid only half his salary. He also requested that he be posted, as per the rules, to another tehsil in Jalaun or to another district in the state. If that was not possible, he requested permission to be sent to another state.
Though Rahi entered IAS in 2023, he was in state government services since 2004 after he got selected in Senior Subordinate Services Examination and became the District Social Welfare Officer.
In 2008, when he was posted in Muzaffarnagar, he exposed the corruption of crores in the scholarship and fee reimbursement scheme. Later in 2009, when he was playing badminton one morning, he was attacked and several bullets were fired at him. He was seriously injured and lost sight in one eye. He was in hospital for several months.
Then in 2022, he gave the UPSC exam from the Divyang quota and this time fulfilled his dream of becoming an IAS.
