Jaipur, Jun 6 (PTI) Rajasthan Police have taken action against 4,869 vehicles in a single day during a special statewide traffic enforcement drive targeting illegal vehicle modifications, black films, unauthorised number plates and misuse of sirens and beacons.

The campaign is being conducted across the state from June 1 to June 30 on the direction of Director General of Police Rajeev Kumar Sharma.

Additional Director General of Police (Traffic) B L Meena said that awareness and counselling of drivers was conducted in first three days of the campaign, following which strict enforcement action was launched on Friday.

On the first day of enforcement on Friday, action was taken against 4,869 vehicles in six categories: 2,246 vehicles for black films on windows; 1,372 vehicles for improper number plates or registration markings; 512 vehicles for illegal modifications; 313 vehicles for displaying unauthorised words, symbols or designations.

Up to 214 vehicles also faced action for using unauthorised red-blue beacons, flashers, strobe lights or hooters. Another 212 vehicles were found using pressure horns or air horns in violation of traffic rules.

The police action, among other measures, includes imposing fines on violating vehicles.

ADG Meena said enforcement and checking drives would continue throughout June, and strict action would be taken against violators across the state. PTI SDA AMJ AMJ
