Chandigarh, Aug 17 (PTI) Manpreet Singh Badal, who was one among the new faces appointed as BJP vice-presidents on Monday, said the fresh responsibility entrusted by the party was not a reward, but a test and wished that god grant him success.
The former Punjab finance minister’s appointment as national vice-president of the BJP comes at a time when the state is headed for polls in a few months.
Speaking to reporters in Bathinda, Manpreet Badal said he expresses his heartfelt gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP president Nitin Nabin for placing immense trust in him and considering him capable of handling this responsibility.
He also thanked the BJP leadership in Punjab for encouraging and supporting him.
“I realise that this responsibility is not a reward but a test, and may the Almighty grant me success in this test. I accept this responsibility with great humility,” he said.
The BJP, led by president Nitin Nabin, overhauled its national team on Monday, bringing in many new faces and some prominent leaders such as former Union minister Smriti Irani as general secretary and former RSS functionary Ram Madhav as vice-president.
Varshaben Narendrabhai Doshi from Gujarat, Bharti Pravin Pawar from Maharashtra, Manpreet Singh Badal from Punjab, Lal Singh Arya from Madhya Pradesh, M Nagaraja from Karnataka and Madhuchandra Kar from West Bengal were among the new faces inducted as party vice-presidents.
Replying to a question from reporters in Bathinda, Badal exuded hope that a “double-engine” government will be formed in Punjab after the assembly elections, which are due early next year.
