New Delhi: No arrests have yet been in the audacious gun-point robbery of two Ola passengers in the heart of Delhi on Saturday.

Closed-circuit TV footage has shown four men accosting the taxi in the Pragati Maidan tunnel, threatening the two passengers inside with a gun and making away with a bag of cash. All four assailants wore helmets.

A first information report (FIR) was registered at Tilak Marg police station under Sections 397 (robbery, or dacoity, with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt) and 34 (common intention).

Deputy Commissioner of Police, New Delhi, Pranav Tayal said the complainant — Patel Sajan Kumar — worked as a delivery agent at Omiya enterprises in Chandni Chowk and was on his way to Gurugram with his associate Jigar Patel to deliver the cash.

“The duo hired an Ola cab from Lal Qila and while on the way to Gurugram on the Ring Road — when they entered the tunnel — four persons on two motorcycles waylaid their cab and robbed his bag containing Rs 1.5 lac to 2 lakh at gun point. An FIR has been registered,” he said.

Yet 48 hours since the incident, there have been no arrests in the case.

According to the FIR, a copy of which is with ThePrint, the incident took place around 3:05 pm Saturday.

“On 24 June, around 2:30 pm we had booked an Ola taxi and were on our way from Lal Qila to Gurugram. The owner of the firm I work at had given a bag with Rs 1.5-2 lakh cash for delivery to his friend. When we reached the Ring Road around 3:05 pm and were about to enter the Pragati Maidan tunnel, four men wearing helmets came and stopped the car. They took out their guns, threatened us and took the bag of cash. I called the owner of the company after the incident and after he reached the spot, we came to the police station,” the FIR read.

A senior police officer said they were probing whether it was an inside job, and that “it appeared the men were being followed”.
