New Delhi, Sep 15 (PTI) The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has asked residents of 145 Type-I quarters at Valmiki Sadan to vacate their homes after the structures were declared unsafe and “beyond economical repair”, officials said on Tuesday.
The evacuation advisory was issued on September 10 following a structural assessment by the civic body’s Civil Engineering Department, which flagged serious stability concerns in eight housing blocks in the complex, they said.
Of the 145 quarters, 81 are spread across four three-storey blocks constructed in 1965-66. These include quarters numbered G-25 to G-51, F-25 to F-51 and S-25 to S-51.
Another 64 quarters in four four-storey blocks, constructed in 1985-86 and numbered 1 to 64, have also been declared unsafe, officials said.
The council’s housing department has urged residents to vacate the quarters at the earliest and cooperate with officials during the evacuation process.
The NDMC said the advisory was a precautionary measure to prevent any untoward incident and stressed that the safety of residents was its priority. PTI VBH RHL
