Ahmedabad, Oct 9 (PTI) More than 14,000 police and homeguard personnel will be deployed in Ahmedabad along with 4,000 CCTV cameras and AI-based systems as part of the security apparatus for Navratri, one of the most heavily-patronised festivals in Gujarat, a top official said on Friday.
The nine-day Navratri festival will be celebrated from October 11 to 19. The city has around 84 commercial Garba venues awaiting permissions, while street Garba events are held at approximately 1,300 locations, Commissioner of Police Anupam Singh Gahlaut told reporters.
“To ensure that the entire system functions smoothly, around 4,000 cameras are connected to the CCTV control room. We are installing PTZ cameras at specific locations involving movement of people, at party plots and Garba venues, so that we can maintain an effective watch,” he said.
Around 14,000 police and Home Guard personnel will be deployed across the city under the leadership of approximately 500 senior officers, ranging from PSI and PI to ACP, DCP and sector-level officers, Gahlaut added.
Police have also discussed with organizers to equip their venues with CCTV cameras, including AI-based ones that will continuously count the number of people, he said.
“Around 300 officers and women police personnel are part of our SHE Teams. Some personnel will remain in traditional attire and others in uniform so that there is a visible police presence among Garba participants,” he said.
Moreover, a cybercrime team and a squad called ‘Cyber Rakshak’ will monitor social media to identify instances where photographs or videos of women participating in Garba are misused or uploaded in an objectionable manner, the city police chief added.
“To prevent drug and alcohol consumption at the venues, police will use drug detection kits and breath analysers. The SOG team will use anti-narcotics kits, which are drug-detection kits and breath analysers. Checkpoints have also been set up at certain locations to nab law violators,” Gahlaut said.
He requested Navratri revellers to park their vehicles in designated areas and abide by the traffic rules. PTI KVM PD BNM
