Medininagar, Jul 31 (PTI A man was arrested from Bengaluru five days after he allegedly bludgeoned his friend to death with a stone in Jharkhand’s Palamu district, police said on Friday.
The accused, Rahul Chandravansi, had allegedly killed 32-year-old Prabhat Kumar Mehta in Pandeypura village in Patan police station area on July 25 before fleeing to Bengaluru, Superintendent of Police Kapil Chaudhary said.
A case was registered on the complaint of the victim’s father, following which a special team led by Medininagar SDPO Rajesh Yadav was constituted to trace the accused.
The team tracked Chandravansi and arrested him from Rajanukunte in Bengaluru, the SP said.
Preliminary investigation revealed that both the accused and the victim were drug addicts, he said.
Chandravansi had gone to Mehta’s house to procure brown sugar on the day of the incident. An argument over a trivial issue escalated into violence, during which Chandravansi allegedly attacked Mehta with a stone and killed him, he added.
The SP said Chandravansi has a criminal record, with two cases pending against him at Patan police station. He had recently been released from jail. PTI COR BS SOM
