Ujjain, Sep 27 (PTI) Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Sunday dug up a section of his ancestral home in Ujjain to make way for a Rs 9.8-crore road-widening project.
As many as 272 structures, including religious sites, are set to be affected by the widening of the 730-metre road connecting Khajur Wali Masjid to Ganesh Chowk.
The 9.8-crore project aims to ease traffic for the upcoming Simhastha Kumbh.
Yadav used a pickaxe to dig up a portion of his ancestral home, part of which will be demolished for the project.
Speaking to reporters, the chief minister said that the house had witnessed all his elections.
“But when it comes to the development of the city, we should be the first to set an example as public servants,” he said.
The road is an important and busy link in the city, and its widening will improve traffic management during Simhastha Kumbh Mela 2028, officials said. PTI COR LAL ARU
