New Delhi: Madhya Pradesh’s former higher education minister Mohan Yadav was sworn in as the state’s 19th chief minister Wednesday.

He was administered the oath by Governor Mangubhai C. Patel in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP President J.P. Nadda and other senior members of the party.

The central leaders arrived in Bhopal Wednesday morning to attend the oath-taking ceremony of the Ujjain Dakshin legislator, who succeeded former chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan after three terms on the chair.

Malhargarh MLA Jagdish Devda and Rewa MLA Rajendra Shukla also took oath as the state’s deputy chief ministers.

The three men were chosen at a BJP lesgislative party meeting held on 11 December, a week after the party demolished any concerns about anti-incumbency and won 163 seats in the 230-seat state Assembly. The Congress came a distant second with 66 seats.
