New Delhi, Sep 15 (PTI) An MCD official was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) for allegedly accepting a Rs 10,000 bribe to release pension benefits of a retired sanitation worker, an official said on Tuesday.
The accused, Sanjay, a resident of Trilokpuri, was posted as a dealing assistant at the MCD’s Shahdara South Zone office complex in Patparganj Industrial Area, the ACB said in a statement.
According to the ACB, a complaint was lodged on September 14 by Jitender, son of retired MCD sanitation worker Shalek Chand, alleging that his father’s pension funds and other retirement benefits had not been released despite his retirement on September 30, 2024.
“Jitender alleged that he and his father had visited the Shahdara South Zone office several times seeking release of the benefits, but the dealing assistant repeatedly demanded money,” the agency said in the statement.
The complainant also alleged that he had earlier paid some money to Sanjay and he had made a fresh demand of Rs 70,000. “The accused had asked him to bring an instalment of the bribe, following which the complainant approached the ACB. After verifying the complaint, the ACB constituted a raiding team,” it read.
On September 14, the team accompanied the complainant to a pre-decided meeting point at the DC Office, MCD, South Zone complex in Patparganj Industrial Area. In the presence of a panch witness, Sanjay allegedly demanded and accepted Rs 10,000 from the complainant, following which the ACB team immediately apprehended him. A case was registered and Sanjay was arrested and sent to judicial custody for 14 days, the ACB said.
