New Delhi, Oct 22 (PTI) Two masked men allegedly set a motorcycle on fire in Azadpur village here around 5 am, with the blaze spreading to a nearby shop and a house, and CCTV cameras captured the sequence, police said on Thursday.

The footage purportedly shows the two accused covering their faces with masks and sheets to conceal their identities. While one of them allegedly kept watch, the other approached the parked motorcycle, took out an inflammable substance from a bag, sprinkled it on the vehicle and set it on fire before fleeing with his accomplice.

“The fire intensified, and a loud explosion was heard as flames engulfed the motorcycle. The fire spread to a nearby grocery shop, setting sacks kept outside ablaze, and also damaged four outdoor air-conditioning units and electrical wires at an adjoining house,” a senior police officer said.

Northwest Delhi residents rushed out after hearing the explosion and tried to douse the flames with buckets of water. Police were subsequently informed.

Officials are analysing footage the victim and residents handed over to identify and trace the accused. Police registered a case. Preliminary investigation suggests that the incident may have stemmed from personal enmity, a source said. PTI BM ASD

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
