Imphal, Jun 8 (PTI) Manipur DGP Mukesh Singh has appealed to people to cooperate with the police in maintaining law and order, and ensuring a safe and secure environment for all.

Singh made the remarks at an interaction with Kuki and Naga civil society organisation during his maiden visit to Kangpokpi and Senapati districts on Sunday.

The DGP was briefed on the prevailing law and order situation, security measures, and key achievements of the police.

“He also reviewed the overall functioning and operational preparedness of the district police forces,” officials said.

Singh also held interactions with senior officials of the district administration and commanders of the Central Armed Police Forces.

“My instruction to police personnel is to deal with every case in an impartial manner. Any violation of law will be dealt with in a serious manner,” Singh later told reporters on Sunday evening.

He reiterated that the police will continue to serve the people impartially, without fear or favour.

The DGP’s visit to Kangpokpi and Senapati came amid tension between the Naga and Kuki communities over suspected armed groups allegedly taking hostage at least 20 people, with efforts underway to secure their release.

Manipur witnessed the killing of at least 260 people and the displacement of thousands in violence between the Meitei and Kuki communities since May 2023. PTI CORR RBT
