Shahjahanpur (UP), Aug 17 (PTI) A 25-year-old man and his three-year-old nephew died after being buried under the debris of a collapsed house roof in Shahjahanpur district of Uttar Pradesh, amidst relentless rainfall since Sunday night, police said.

A woman was also critically injured in the incident, which occurred on Monday morning.

Circle Officer (Powayan) Pravin Malik told PTI that in Mudiya Kurmiyat village, a ‘kutcha’ house was built next to the one whose roof collapsed. The height of the ‘kutcha’ house exceeded that of the pucca house.

Due to the rain, the ‘kutcha’ house fell on the pucca house’s roof, which subsequently collapsed, as it had no iron beam to support it.

The weight caused the roof to cave in suddenly.

Rajan and his nephew, Aarav, died on the spot after being trapped under the debris, while a woman named Kajal sustained critical injuries.

CO Malik stated that upon receiving the information, the police arrived at the scene and, with the help of villagers, removed the debris to rescue the victims and transport them to the Primary Health Centre.

Doctors declared Rajan and Aarav dead, while the critically injured Kajal was referred to the Government Medical College.

Police have sent the bodies of the deceased for a post-mortem examination, he said. PTI COR NAV MPL MPL
