Thane, Jul 7 (PTI) A 24-year-old man was injured after some portion of a gallery of a four-storey building collapsed on him in Mumbra area of Thane on Tuesday, a civic official said.
Civic authorities received information about the incident at 4.58 pm, said Yasin Tadvi, chief of the Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC) of the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC).
“The incident occurred at Chandni Building, located opposite Amrit Nagar Gate in Kausa, Mumbra. The gallery of the top floor flat in the four-storey building, which is around 30 to 34 years old, collapsed onto the third-floor gallery,” he said.
Abdul Rahman Sheikh, who runs a tea stall on the ground floor of the building, suffered head injuries after a part of the collapsed gallery fell on him.
“Sheikh was immediately shifted to the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital in Kalwa for treatment. He sustained injuries to his head and is undergoing medical care,” Tadvi said.
The building falls under the C-2A category. As a precautionary measure, it has been temporarily vacated and the occupants have been instructed to stay at alternate locations until further notice, he added.
He said a safety barricade has been put up around the building to prevent any untoward incident. PTI COR NP
