Latur, Oct 9 (PTI) Latur district administration officials inspected the Rena medium irrigation project, which has just 20 per cent water remaining amid a poor monsoon.

Collector Bharat Bastewad, ZP CEO Rahul Kumar Meena and Latur Municipal Corporation commissioner Rahul Kulkarni inspected the project on Thursday and directed officials to curb attempts to illegally lift water.

“The entire stock in Rena has been reserved for drinking purposes. The administration has stepped up efforts against unauthorised water extraction. The collector has directed Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) to disconnect power supply to pumps being used for illegal water lifting,” an official said.

Bastewad previously inspected the Manjara and Lower Terna projects.

During Thursday’s visit, the officials also reviewed the availability of fodder for livestock in rural areas. Bastewad inspected crops in the project vicinity and interacted with local farmers to understand the situation and assess their requirements. PTI COR BNM

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
