New Delhi: Day after the day-light murder of singer-turned-politician Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu aka Sidhu Moosewala in Punjab’s Mansa district, the Punjabi icon’s father Balkaur Singh wrote an emotional letter to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann demanding probe by Central investigation agencies CBI and NIA into the matter, saying he expected justice.

“I have lost my son due to the negligence of your government. Shubhdeep’s mother questions me about our son and when will he be back? I expect justice,” the father wrote.

In the letter, he also demanded that the case be investigated by a sitting judge of the High Court.

Responding to the letter by the singer’s father, Mann condemned the murder and agreed to a judicial probe into the case, saying his government will leave “no stone unturned to bring the perpetrators of this heinous crime to justice”.

According to a Punjab government’s press statement, the Chief Minister’s Office said it will request the Chief Justice of Punjab & Haryana High Court to get the case investigated by a sitting judge of the High Court.

“The state government will ensure full cooperation to this Enquiry Commission investigations including that from any of the central agency like NIA,” the statement mentioned.

The Punjabi singer-rapper and Congress leader was shot dead by unidentified assailants, a day after his security cover, along with that of over 424 other VIPs in the state, was reportedly partially withdrawn by the Bhagwant Mann led-Aam Aadmi Party government.

Mentioning about the security of his son, Moosewala’s father also demanded that the officers who publicised the orders pertaining to withdrawal of his security be held accountable.

Reacting to the statement given by Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) VK Bhawra Sunday evening regarding the involvement of another gang behind the incident, the 28-year-old singer’s father said that his son worked really hard to carve a name for himself around the world. He also demanded an apology from the DGP for associating him with gang-war. Sources in Punjab Police said the killing appears to be “a suspected case of gang rivalry”.

“Members of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang are being probed for their involvement in the incident,” a source had told ThePrint.

Punjab CM has directed the DGP to issue a clarification regarding the press conference and mentioned that the government has already ordered an enquiry to look into aspects of security reduction and fix the responsibility.
