New Delhi: Ten days after a 53-year-old woman went missing in Delhi, the police Thursday said that her body was recovered from a burial ground and four people have been arrested in the case. According to sources, the accused men killed her to avoid paying a debt of some Rs 10,000.

The deceased woman, who lent loans to hawkers and vendors in Outer Delhi’s Mangolpuri area, was allegedly killed and buried by the accused.

The accused allegedly killed the woman after they failed to return the loan amount and hatched a conspiracy to kill her. According to sources, two of the accused — Mobin and Naveen — had even accompanied the victim’s family to the police station to file the missing complaint.

A senior police officer told that Navin and Mobin had allegedly owed “around Rs 8,000 to Rs 10,000” to the victim.

On 2 January, a missing complaint was lodged at Delhi’s Mangolpuri police station by the woman’s husband, DCP (Outer) Harendra K Singh said.

“We traced her phone but it was switched off. On 7 January, after screening CCTB footage, an FIR was registered under IPC 375 (kidnapping),” Singh, who is investigating the case, told ThePrint.

During the probe, the police found that the location of the last two callers was the same as that of the victim.

Narrating about the case, DCP Singh revealed that the victim was allegedly killed by a suspect called Rehan and was buried in Nangloi cemetery.

“Based on the probe, we enquired with Mobin, but nothing worked out. Another suspect Naveen moved for bail and joined the investigation. He then revealed, confessing his involvement that he and Mobin had known the victim for 4 to 5 years. He said that Rehan, another suspect, killed her in Mobin’s room and then they buried her in Nangloi kabristan on the intervening night of 2-3 January,” Singh added.

According to the Delhi Police, the accused are family friends. All four have been nabbed and the auto used has been recovered.

The victim’s body has been sent for autopsy. The caretaker of Kabristan, Sayyad Ali, who allowed burial in the night and took Rs 5,000 for not making any entry in the register, has also been arrested.
