New Delhi: Newly elected BJP MP from Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi Kangana Ranaut was allegedly slapped by a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) constable at the Chandigarh airport Thursday because she “disrespected farmers”, news agency ANI reported.

An inquiry committee has been set up by the CISF to look into the matter. The constable has been suspended, according to sources in the CISF.

The actor claimed she was slapped by constable Kulwinder Kaur during the security check, while she was on her way to board a flight to Delhi.

In a video later, Ranaut addressed concerns, saying she was safe, and that a woman security personnel hit her on her face and verbally abused her. “When I asked her why, she said she was a supporter of the farmers’ protests…I am safe, but my concern is how to handle the extremism that is increasing in Punjab,” the actor said.

After arriving in the national capital, Ranaut met CISF Director General Nina Singh and other senior officials and told them what happened.

In her electoral debut for the 2024 Lok Sabha, Ranaut won Mandi by a margin of 74,755 votes, defeating Congress’s Vikramaditya Singh, the son of former Himachal Pradesh chief minister Virbhadra Singh. Singh, 34, has contested two assembly elections in the past but this was his first bid for a parliamentary seat.
