Chennai, Jun 8 (PTI) IIT Madras hosted a three-day ‘3rd BRICS Neuroscience Symposium 2026’, marking the first time the event was held in India.
Organised by the Sudha Gopalakrishnan Brain Centre (SGBC) at IIT Madras, the symposium, held from June 5 to June 7, focused on strengthening international cooperation in neuroscience research and neuro-technologies. A major highlight was the release of the Human Brainstem Atlas by SGBC.
Addressing the gathering, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri emphasised the value of global collaboration, noting that India’s current BRICS chairship will culminate this September. “I am sure the work that this conference is doing will also, in its own way, feed into the success of the BRICS summit,” Misri said.
Chief Guest Prof Ajay Kumar Sood, Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India, lauded SGBC as an exemplar of research, innovation, and multi-disciplinary collaboration. The event featured scientific sessions on human brain organisation and showcased SGBC’s world-class whole-brain imaging pipeline.
