Guwahati, May 12 (PTI) After Himanta Biswa Sarma took oath as the chief minister of Assam for the second time in a row on Tuesday, his family members said it was the blessings of the people and his hard work for the state’s development that led him to this position.
They maintained that Sarma will continue to work with the same zeal for the state and its people, as he became the only non-Congress chief minister to assume office for the second consecutive term.
“I am feeling very happy today. And I want to share this joy with the people, with the youth and with everyone. This happiness belongs to all,” Sarma’s mother Mrinalini Devi, who attended the swearing-in ceremony in a wheelchair, told PTI Videos.
She said her son will continue to work for the state and its people, and contribute to nation-building.
“My blessings are always with him,” Devi added.
Sarma’s wife Riniki Bhuyan Sharma credited the wishes of the people for his success and said it was a humbling moment for the entire family.
“It is because of his hard work, the blessings of the Almighty and the blessings of the people of Assam that he has reached this position,” Bhuyan Sharma said.
She said that Sarma has always maintained the lifestyle of a common man and worked hard, with the people of Assam believing in his vision for development.
People have complete faith in the BJP and trust in Himanta, and he will continue to work even harder to remain in the hearts of the people of Assam, the CM’s wife said.
“Today, we are proud and humbled because the people of Assam have trusted him once again and given him a mandate with the belief that he can do even more for them,” she said.
Bhuyan Sharma maintained that she has always stood by her husband under all circumstances.
“Keeping my fingers crossed that Assam becomes one of the top five states in the country soon,” she said.
Sarma’s children, Nandil and Sukanya, both pursuing higher education, also expressed delight at their father’s achievement.
“In the last five years, Papa has done very good work as chief minister, and we hope he continues to work for the people of Assam in the same way,” Nandil said.
Asked about Sarma’s previous government’s tough stance against infiltration, he told PTI Videos, “This has been a significant phase in Assam’s political discourse and political landscape. Over the past five years, the BJP government has done commendable work. From what we have seen so far, it appears that the good work will continue.” Sukanya said that while working for the state, Sarma has not neglected his duties towards the family.
“As far as I have seen, he has worked day and night for the development of Assam. Sometimes, even in his sleep, he talks about how to develop Assam and work more for the people,” she said.
“However, we have never felt that he has not given time to the family. He has taken care of the smallest of our needs,” Sukanya added. PTI SSG NN
