Gurugram: The Haryana IPS Association has come out in support of Rohtak Superintendent of Police Gaurav Rajpurohit after Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) MLA Arjun Chautala allegedly heckled him during a protest in Rohtak Monday.
The exchange took place when INLD workers led by Arjun Chautala, who represents the Rania assembly seat in Sirsa district, staged a demonstration against rising petrol and diesel prices and marched to the district collectorate to submit a memorandum.
When police locked the gates of the Deputy Commissioner’s (DC) office, INLD workers stood on the road outside. A 15-minute standoff followed during which Arjun Chautala and police officials allegedly exchanged words. When neither the Deputy Commissioner nor other senior officials came out to receive the memorandum, Chautala allegedly threatened to block both gates of the DC office and sat on a dharna at the secretariat gate.
Workers climbed the gate and later blocked the road, parking a tractor in the middle to disrupt traffic, which then had to be diverted by police.
As the situation escalated, both SP Gaurav Rajpurohit and DC Sachin Gupta arrived at the spot. According to reports, Arjun Chautala first argued with the DC, and then exchanged words with the SP when he tried to intervene.
Unverified videos of the exchange, which are viral on social media, appear to show Chautala telling the SP: “Main tere se baat nahi kar raha (I am not talking to you).” The videos also appear to capture him using intemperate language as he walked away.
The Haryana IPS Association posted on X late Monday night, sharply condemning the incident. “The recent incident in Rohtak, in which a public representative attempted to intimidate the district administration without any provocation, is highly condemnable,” it said. Adding, “The Haryana IPS Association strongly condemns this behaviour. The Association stands firmly with the district administration officers.”

Meanwhile, Arjun Chautala also took to X to accuse the district administration of high-handedness and said the BJP government’s attitude towards political dissent was evident in the way officials behaved.

Arjun Chautala blamed Rohtak district authorities for the incident.
“We had a plan to hand over a memorandum to the DC after our protest and we have duly informed him on the telephone. Still, no one came forward to accept our memorandum for two hours,” Chautala told ThePrint.
“When they eventually came, I was speaking to the DC when the SP intervened. Initially, I told him that I am talking to the DC and he had no business intervening. However, he kept intervening, leading to an altercation,” he added.
The Rania MLA said that the SP must understand that an MLA ranks above an SP in official protocol and Rajpurohit should have kept that in mind.
ThePrint reached SP Rajpurohit for comment through a WhatsApp message. This report will be updated if and when he replies.

Not the first Chautala-police row
The incident revived memories of a similar confrontation involving another scion of the powerful Chautala family.
In April, Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) chief and former Haryana deputy chief minister Dushyant Chautala publicly accused DGP Ajay Singhal of blocking his phone number after he had made repeated calls over three or four days seeking an appointment.
Dushyant even held a press conference in Panchkula displaying his call records and a WhatsApp message to journalists.
That episode came on the back of another earlier confrontation in December, when Dushyant clashed with then DGP, O.P. Singh, who had made remarks about people with a “distorted mindset” riding Bullet motorcycles and Thar SUVs.
Dushyant hit back pointedly, posting a photograph of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and former Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on a Bullet, before making a conspicuous entry at a Jind rally in a Thar driven by a woman.
Within days of that rally, Haryana Police quietly withdrew the security cover of Dushyant’s brother, Digvijay Chautala, his brother-in-law, his father-in-law and former Additional DGP Paramjeet Singh Ahlawat, and Haryanvi singer and JJP leader Rahul Fazilpuria.
