Panaji, Aug 4 (PTI) The Congress in Goa on Tuesday expelled two women leaders from the party for six years for being involved in “anti-party activities”.
Talking to reporters here, Congress’ Goa spokesman Vivek D’Silva said the party’s state executive committee expelled Manisha Usgaonkar and Shamila Siddiquie for six years.
Both of them were suspended in June this year after they issued media statements against the appointment of Girish Chodankar as the new chief of the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC).
Usgaonkar, who was the general secretary of the GPCC, had contested the 2022 Goa assembly polls as a Congress candidate against BJP’s Vishwajit Rane in Valpoi constituency, while Siddiqui was heading the social media cell of the party’s Goa unit.
D’Silva said the party had constituted a disciplinary committee to inquire against both the leaders.
“Both the leaders had deposed before the committee in the past. The disciplinary committee had recommended expulsion of both the leaders to the state executive committee,” he added. PTI RPS NP
