Gadchiroli, Sep 27 (PTI) A seven-year-old girl and two other extremely critical patients with sickle cell disease were airlifted from the flood-hit Bhamragad area of Gadchiroli district in Maharashtra on Sunday in a coordinated operation, officials said.
Heavy rains over the last three days in neighbouring Chhattisgarh flooded several residential areas in Gadchiroli district, necessitating evacuation of at least 525 people to safer places.
Two national highways and a state highway passing through Bhamragadh in the district remained closed due to floodwaters, officials said on Sunday.
The district administration said three patients from Bhamragad taluka in extremely critical condition were airlifted by helicopter to Hedri in Gadchiroli district for further treatment.
District Collector Avishyant Panda supervised the operation, it said.
The three patients airlifted to Hedri include Sangita Usendi (7), who was shifted from Laheri Primary Health Centre, Apeksha Alam, and Roshan Madavi.
The helicopter used in the medical emergency belonged to Lloyds Metals Company, which is available in the area for medical work, the administration said.
Tribal Development Project Officer Amar Raut and Bhamragad tehsildar Kishor Bagde coordinated and made necessary arrangements to transfer the patients.
Several parts of Chhattisgarh received heavy rains over the past few days, inundating low-lying areas, swelling rivers and streams, disrupting road connectivity and creating flood-like situations, particularly in the Bastar region.
