New Delhi: Slamming those criticising the arrest of activist Disha Ravi in the toolkit case, a group of former members of the judiciary and law-enforcement agencies has written to President Ram Nath Kovind, alleging that those with “vested interests” are doing so to hide their “anti-national” activities and indulging in “slander” against Delhi Police.

Defending the police action, they said information available on open sources clearly establish that the toolkit document contains the list of persons or groups to be followed having “linkages with ISI and Khalistani groups”.

The 47 signatories to the representation to the President include former Rajasthan chief justice and governor V S Kokje, former Delhi and Patna high courts’ chief justice Rajendra Menon, former Punjab DGP P C Dogra, former CBI director Nageshwar Rao and former Kerala DGP R Padmanabhan.

Several opposition parties and organisation have slammed Disha’s arrest, alleging that it is an attack on democracy and accusing the government of trying to silence its critics. Many of them have also cited her young age to attack the police.

The representation to the President said, “It is sickening to note that a few Indian citizens have actively engaged with banned elements and organisations who coordinated and perfected a plan to organise protests in front of all Indian embassies, high commissions and consul-general offices in leading cities in the USA, Canada, the United Kingdom and Europe to defame the Indian government…

“They have not only attempted to undermine the confidence the Indian expatriate community and PIOs have in the present government, but also tried to mislead elected representatives of these foreign governments which is clearly an act prejudicial to friendly relations of our nation with these countries and amounts to an illegal act.”

The group of people asserted that her age is immaterial to the case as she is an adult and claimed that it has now been well established that the she been conspiring with banned anti national elements and persons who were acting in a manner which would adversely affect the friendly relations with foreign countries and create unrest affecting the public order in our country.

The very fact that she had allegedly deleted the WhatsApp group messages on coming to know that the police had got the clue about its content clearly proves that the accused was aware of illegal actions, they alleged.

They urged the central government to ensure that Delhi Police is able to do its investigation in a free and fair manner without any undue pressure from “vested interests” and to bring to book all those who allowed themselves to be used by “secessionist” forces in India and abroad.

The police have adhered to legal formalities in the case, they said, adding that the arrest and the procedural aspects are in public domain and open to judicial scrutiny.

A democratically-elected government has constitutionally passed the farm laws and is conscious about its duty towards the people of India, they said.

“Few immature individuals with vested interests are making attempts to magnify the legal action by the police to hide their anti-national activities by making such baseless allegations and indulging in slander against the Delhi Police to demoralise them,” they said.

  1. Disha Ravi – an environmentalist – seriously? Then why is she going all out to support the Punjab farmers who are destroying the water table in Punjab and converting this green state into an arid area a few decades from now? Why is she supporting the farmers who are poisoning the air in Delhi and neighboring areas? And why is she opposing Mr. Modi who is one of the global champions of the Paris Climate Accord and who has created a strong energy transition in this country from polluting coal based power plants to solar and wind energy?
Probably sedition is not a charge that needs to be levelled at her – but she certainly needs to spend her time in jail introspecting on her actions in support of destruction of the environment.

  2. Don’t worry sir ..we in the iits and iims and so many respected Institutes ,are well aware of the propaganda by these so called activities and social workers, these people are like (ghar ke saap) which are just drilling india silently whenever they get chance they show there realfaces… We should come forward for opposing these anti nationals…

  3. In all anti-Modi Government demonstration , the main problem is “NA KHAUNGA NA KHANE DUNGA”
This approach despite all the resistance is percolating down, it may take generations to reach the lowest level of administration but the process has begun. Well being of people will only expedite it. By and large nobody wants to thieve and be corrupt on full stomach. Every society has its greedy and criminal component and the laws are there to take care of them, unfortunately no leadership since independence took note of the fact that in their own greed for money and power they ended up corrupting the entire society.
The Modi Government remaining in power hurts them so much that they do not mind doing thing that may hurt the country just so this dispensation does not remain in power.

  4. many of them also have cited her young age to attack the police?
    young age?
rape, murder? remember nirbhaya case? same is the case in non violent crimes. age no bar.
president cannot decide on these matter. only courts can.

  5. An “activist” is not beyond reproach. All “activists” are usually propelled by some actuators for own agenda. At times the “activist” herself is unaware that she is being used.

Indians can’t afford to grow with low self-esteem with no confidence in its leaders as projected by some activists. It is essential to infuse confidence in our younger generation. Dissident voices notwithstanding.

  6. Glad to see sensible people raising their voices. Otherwise, we would be only hearing the ‘andolanjivi’ brigade who have been supporting all the anti-national activities whilst simultaneously crying about ‘attack’ on democracy.
    Hypocrites!!

  7. More BJP bull. These people should not have knowledge of what is in the tool kit or other evidence. They are just backing the racist government!
