New Delhi, Oct 22 (PTI) Delhi Police has denied permission for Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh’s scheduled concert at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on October 30, citing specific threat-related inputs, security concerns and law and order commitments amid the ongoing festive season, an official said on Thursday.

In a letter dated October 21, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Anant Mittal informed BookMyShow Live Private Limited Director Anil Makhija that the request to organise the “Diljit Dosanjh’s Aura India Tour Delhi” concert had been examined but could not be approved.

“In view of the specific threat-related inputs, coupled with the multifarious security and law and order commitments arising out of the ongoing festive season and other important law and order concerns, the same cannot be acceded to,” the letter stated.

The decision comes ahead of the musical event, which was expected to draw a large gathering of fans.

Delhi AAP chief Saurabh Bharadwaj questioned why the government was denying permission for Dosanjh’s concert, describing him as another Punjab icon after Daler Mehndi.

“Indian youth love Dosanjh, and he is much loved in Punjab,” he added.

The Delhi performance was supposed to kickstart the India leg of Diljit’s Aura World Tour, which was scheduled to travel to six cities — Indore, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Lucknow and Chandigarh.

As part of the world tour, Diljit has performed in multiple countries across North America, Europe and Australia. PTI BM SSJ APL
