New Delhi: The CBI has arrested a Delhi Police personnel for allegedly facilitating a Rs 3-crore bribery deal between an alleged fake drug manufacturer and an unidentified public servant for securing him a favourable outcome in a CBI case related to counterfeit Sun Pharma medicines.
Inspector Pradeep Singh, who works with the Delhi Police Crime Branch, was nabbed by the CBI from the Chandni Chowk area Monday evening when he had allegedly gone to collect the first instalment of the bribe on behalf of the public servant.
Now, the agency is on the lookout for the public servant who allegedly told N. Raja alias Valliappan, under CBI probe for the last three months, that he would use his “connections and influence within the CBI” to help him.
Valliappan, the managing director of the Puducherry-based Amman Pharma, was booked by the central agency on the recommendation of the Union Territory administration. The UT administration has handed over two cases of spurious drug manufacturing to the central agency.
Valliapan was arrested by the UT Police in December last year and was released on bail in January this year.
The FIR was registered on the complaint of the pharmaceutical major Sun Pharma, which had flagged production of spurious drugs in the name of its popular brand medicines Montek LC and Rosuvas, which were counterfeited by some firms and supplied to various states of India, including Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Delhi, West Bengal, Telangana, and Uttar Pradesh.
In its complaint, Sun Pharma alleged that an investigation by the company indicated that the counterfeit products were manufactured and supplied by five firms—Amman Pharma, New Baba Pharma, Parvathi Traders, Arjun Pharma, and Hai Maa Medico—which were also involved in distribution.
In its probe, the Puducherry Police found that Valliapan was the “single point of contact” coordinating orders and dispatching counterfeit medicines from Puducherry to wholesale dealers in other states.
Following the FIR, a joint team of the Department of Drugs Control and Puducherry Police in November last year seized 34 samples of spurious drugs of popular consumption such as Metformin and Fexofenadine, which are commonly used in diabetes and allergy, from commercial premises run by Valliapan.
Based on the recommendations of the Puducherry LG, who observed that the case required a probe by the CBI or the National Investigation Agency due to its wider ramifications, the CBI registered a case on 3 March this year against Valliapan and two others.

The bribery case
In the latest FIR of the CBI related to the alleged demand and payment of the bribe, the agency documented that Valliappan was introduced to the Delhi crime branch inspector Pradeep Singh through a middleman named Rajkumar alias Madhanraj.
“On 14.05.2026, Shri N. Raja @ Valliappan @ Shri Rajasekhar and Shri Rajkumar @ Madhanraj met Shri Pradeep Singh at Aerocity, near IGI Airport, New Delhi. Thereafter, Shri Pradeep Singh allegedly escorted both of them to the office of an unidentified senior public servant located in the vicinity and introduced them to him. During the meeting, the said senior public servant allegedly assured Shri N. Raja @ Valliappan @ Shri Rajasekhar that he could secure favourable relief in the CBI cases through his connections and influence within the CBI,” the CBI documents in the FIR.
Two days after the meeting near the IGI Airport, the CBI was tipped off that Valliapan had informed his wife that the “senior public servant” he had met had assured him he would help with the agency’s pending case if he paid a Rs 3 crore bribe.
“Thereafter, Shri N. Raja @ Vatliappan @ Shri Rajasekhar reportedly remained engaged in arranging the required funds through his contacts for payment of the illegal gratification to the concerned public servants,” the CBI further documented in the FIR.
The alleged discussions over the mode and modalities of the bribe payment did not take place in Delhi, according to information passed on to the CBI; for this purpose, Madhanraj travelled to Vadodara, Gujarat, where he met Pradeep Singh and discussed key aspects of the bribe exchange. Following the meeting, both of them travelled together to Delhi.
Additionally, the source tipped off the agency that Valliappan had informed his wife that the public servant had sought an advance payment of Rs 1.5 crore from the overall bribe of Rs 3 crore, which he was to deliver “urgently” and further advised her to keep the funds ready for the same.
“It is further learnt that Shri N. Raja @ Vattiappan @ Shri Rajasekhar contacted a hawala operator based in Chennai and sought his services for transferring an amount of Rs. 1 crore to Delhi as part of the advance bribe payment. The source has further revealed that the delivery of bribe money to Shri Pradeep Singh, Inspector, will be taking place on 08.06.2026 in the Chandni Chowk area, Delhi,” the CBI further documented in the FIR.
