New Delhi, Jul 31 (PTI) Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Friday welcomed the court’s decision sentencing former Aam Aadmi Party councillor Tahir Hussain and five others to life imprisonment in the murder case of Intelligence Bureau staffer Ankit Sharma, and accused the AAP leadership of backing Hussain despite his arrest.
In a post on X, Gupta said, “We welcome the decision of the Hon’ble Court to sentence former Aam Aadmi Party councillor Tahir Hussain and five other convicts to life imprisonment in the murder case of the late IB officer Ankit Sharma.” Stepping up her attack on the opposition party, the chief minister questioned the support extended by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders to Hussain after his arrest.
“Today, the people of Delhi demand answers from the Aam Aadmi Party. Tahir Hussain was arrested on charges of murder, yet even after that, Mr Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia stood in his support! They kept trying relentlessly to save him! Why? Will Mr Kejriwal tell the people of Delhi? Was it under their patronage that people like Tahir Hussain conspired to incite riots?” she said in a post on X.
Gupta asserted that the Delhi Court verdict reinforced public faith in the judicial process.
“Today, justice has triumphed. This verdict further strengthens the faith of every citizen of the country in the law and the judiciary,” she said. PTI VBH VBH MPL MPL
