Dehradun, Jul 30 (PTI) Three people, including the husband of a schoolteacher who died within eight months of her marriage, have been booked for alleged dowry harassment in Uttarakhand’s Dehradun district, police said on Thursday According to the police, a case has been registered at the Doiwala police station against victim Srishti Kandari’s husband Saurabh Khatri, her mother-in-law, and her sister-in-law, based on a complaint filed by the victim’s mother.

Police stated that the complaint alleges Srishti was subjected to mental and physical harassment over dowry demands and other issues ever since her marriage. The complaint further alleges that she was humiliated by being called “inauspicious.” In her complaint, Srishti’s mother accused her in-laws of murdering her daughter, noting that they did not even inform her about the death, which occurred on July 29.

According to the police, Srishti worked as a teacher at a school in Tehri district. She got married to Saurabh in November last year.

Police stated that an investigation into the matter has been initiated. PTI DPT NB NB
