Maharajganj (UP), Sep 27 (PTI) A couple were killed and their daughter injured after a tree fell on them amid heavy rain when they were out in the forest to look out for their goat, police said on Sunday.
The incident occurred in a village under Paniyara police station on Saturday afternoon when Gauri Shankar Paswan (55), his wife Shrimati Devi (52) and their daughter Anjilika (19) went into the forest to look for their goat, they said.
While they were searching for the animal, a large shankhu tree fell amid strong winds and rain, trapping all three underneath, police said.
Anjilika managed to crawl out and reached home, where she informed villagers about the incident. However, heavy rain and strong winds prevented them from reaching the spot immediately.
Later in the evening, after the weather improved, villagers reached the forest and cut down the tree to rescue the family. By then, the couple had died, police said.
Paniyara SHO Kunwar Gaurav Singh said the bodies had been sent for post-mortem examination and legal proceedings were underway. PTI COR CDN SMV SMV APL
