Bengaluru, Aug 17 (PTI) The Congress on Monday filed a complaint seeking action against Karnataka BJP MLC N Ravikumar for allegedly disrespecting the national flag during an Independence Day ceremony at the BJP office here, police said.
In this regard, a complaint was submitted by Kushal Haruvegowda, Vice President of the Bengaluru West District Congress Committee, along with party functionaries at Malleswaram police station.
The complaint was received. However, no FIR has been registered in this yet, they said.
In its complaint, the Congress party said that during the flag-hoisting ceremony held on Independence Day 2026 at the BJP office premises in Malleswaram, everyone present, including Legislative Council Opposition Leader Chalavadi Narayanaswamy, was standing in respect of the National Anthem and the National Flag.
At that time, Legislative Council Member Ravikumar, who has undergone training in the RSS, allegedly did not salute the National Flag and instead stood in a manner resembling the way one salutes at an RSS shakha, the party alleged.
“By doing so, he (Ravikumar) allegedly showed disrespect to the National Anthem and the National Flag….We hereby submit this complaint requesting that immediate necessary legal action be taken against him, that a case be registered regarding the alleged insult to the National Flag, and that an appropriate investigation be conducted,” the complaint stated.
