Hyderabad, Sep 15 (PTI) Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Tuesday invited Prince Rahim Aga Khan V, 50th Imam of the Ismaili Muslims, to attend the Telangana Rising Global Summit to be organised by the state government for three days from December 7.
Reddy, who paid a courtesy visit to Aga Khan here, sought collaboration in education, tourism, and healthcare sectors and the assistance of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) in renovating the Nizam-era City College Osmania General Hospital (OGH) here.
He said the state government is constructing new buildings for the OGH and the old hospital complex is planned to be developed as a heritage structure, according to an official release.
He said the Global Summit would be organised in the Future City being developed by the state government on Hyderabad’s outskirts.
Representatives from 100 countries are expected to attend the summit.
When CM Revanth Reddy explained the plan to develop the ‘Bharat Future City’ in 30,000 acres, Aga Khan showed keen interest in the project and specifically enquired about the location of the Future City, the release said.
Reddy said the Future City is being developed on 30,000 acres as a net zero city.
He also said a company from Singapore is preparing the master plan for the Future City which would be just 20 minutes away from the city’s international airport.
He highlighted that a ‘green zone’ would come up in 15,000 acres in the Future City. Top companies like Amazon have started their operations in the Future City, he said.
Reddy also briefed Aga Khan on the state government’s grand plans for rejuvenation of the Musi river here and to develop a ‘night economy’ alongside the river.
Noting that the government holds the Aga Khan Foundation in high regard, the CM commended the initiatives undertaken by the Foundation in Telangana.
Highlighting Aga Khan Foundation’s pivotal role in restoring Telangana’s heritage monuments, he said the Legislative Council building, restored with the Foundation’s support, was recently inaugurated.
The release said the previous meeting of the CM and Aga Khan during the inauguration of the Qutb Shahi tombs which were also restored with the assistance of Aga Khan Foundation, was also discussed, it said.
The CM also highlighted the state government’s goal of transforming Telangana into a USD three trillion economy by 2047.
While Telangana currently contributes 2.5 per cent to the national GDP, the aim is to raise this share to 10 per cent, he said.
During the meeting, Revanth Reddy expressed grief over the passing of Prince Rahim Aga Khan V’s father, the late Aga Khan IV, the release said.
The Chief Minister recalled the long-standing bond the Aga Khan family had with the historic Hyderabad city, it said.
Meanwhile, former Chief Secretary and CM’s Advisor K Ramakrishna Rao briefed Aga Khan on the agreements the Telangana government had recently signed with various world-class universities during the visit to Britain and the United States.
Ramakrishna Rao said institutions such as Harvard University and the London School of Business, along with other universities, have agreed to commence operations in Hyderabad.
Yogita Rana, Principal Secretary of the Education department, requested the establishment of a campus of Aga Khan University in the ‘Future City’.
Special Chief Secretary Vani Prasad highlighted the role played by the Aga Khan Foundation in the tourism sector and urged further collaboration, the release added.
State Minority Affairs Minister Mohammad Azharuddin was also present during the meeting.
Aga Khan began his India visit on September 9 following an invitation from Vice President C P Radhakrishnan.
