New Delhi, May 12 (PTI) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a chargesheet against a real estate company, its directors, and officials of two private banks for allegedly conspiring to cheat homebuyers and financial institutions in connection with a housing project in Noida, officials said on Tuesday.
In a statement, the agency said it has chargesheeted “Logix City Developers Pvt. Ltd. and its Directors, Bank Officers from ICICI Bank and HDFC Bank” for their alleged involvement in a criminal conspiracy causing wrongful loss to financial institutions and homebuyers.
According to the CBI, the accused builder company and its directors allegedly induced homebuyers and investors through “false assurances and fraudulent representations” and obtained financial benefits through “illegal and deceptive means”.
“It was further revealed during investigation that the accused public servants abused their official position to facilitate the illegal acts of the builder in violation of established norms and procedures,” the agency said.
The agency alleged that the actions extended “undue pecuniary advantage to the builder company” while causing corresponding wrongful loss to financial institutions and homebuyers.
The chargesheet has been filed before a competent court under provisions related to criminal conspiracy, cheating, and criminal breach of trust under the Indian Penal Code, along with criminal misconduct under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
The CBI said it is currently probing 50 such cases registered on the directions of the Supreme Court against various builders and unknown officials of financial institutions across the country over alleged cheating of homebuyers and diversion of funds.
Earlier, the agency had filed seven chargesheets in similar cases involving several builder firms and officials of banks and financial institutions, the statement added. PTI MHS RHL
