New Delhi, Jun 10 (PTI) The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Wednesday approved a Central government office complex and a residential project for government employees in Amaravati, the new capital of Andhra Pradesh.

According to the government, the committee approved the construction of the Central Government General Pool Office Accommodation (CGGPOA) and the General Pool Residential Accommodation (GPRA) in Amaravati, which became the capital of Andhra Pradesh on April 6, after the president’s assent to the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation (Amendment) Act.

The objective of the GPRA is to alleviate the financial burden on Central government employees by providing them with adequate residential accommodation, thereby enhancing their morale, promoting integrity and contributing to their overall well-being, the government said.

By enabling staff to reside in close proximity to their workplaces, the project will also support efficient governance and ensure that employees remain readily available to discharge their duties effectively, it said.

In a statement, the government said the GPRA campus in Amaravati is planned over an area of 17 acres. It will comprise 11 residential towers with a total of 1,504 dwelling units, ranging from Type II to Type VI, including refuge areas.

The project will provide basement parking facilities accommodating 1,972 equivalent car spaces. The total built-up area of the project is 31.30 lakh sq ft, including a basement area of 9.10 lakh sq ft, the statement said.

“Across the globe, there is a growing emphasis on adopting environment friendly and sustainable construction practices.

“In line with this objective, the proposed GPRA campus envisages that all buildings are planned and designed in strict compliance with the best green building standards prevailing in India, with a strong focus on minimising environmental impact through sustainable site planning, enhanced energy efficiency, water conservation, use of locally available materials, and improved occupant health and comfort,” the statement said.

In another statement, the government said the CGGPOA project is a landmark initiative envisioned to evolve the greenfield city of Amaravati into a world-class urban centre.

The objective of the proposal is to address the growing demand for office accommodation for various Central government offices by housing them under one roof.

This consolidation will enhance inter-department coordination and improve the efficiency and effectiveness of services delivered by the Centre to Andhra Pradesh, the statement said.

The project is planned over an area of 5.53 acres.

“The CGGPOA will comprise two blocks – one on Plot C-9 with ground+13 floors (ground floor for services, three floors for podium parking, and 10 floors for office spaces); and another on Plot C-8 with ground+10 floors (ground floor for services, three floors for podium parking, and seven floors for office spaces).

“The facility will be designed to accommodate approximately 8,000 officials and staff members. Podium parking provision for about 1,800 equivalent car spaces has been proposed. The total built-up area of the project is 23,25,000 sq ft,” the statement said. PTI BUN ARI
