Faridabad, Oct 22 (PTI) A BTech student walking her pet dog was attacked by a neighbour’s German Shepherd in a residential neighbourhood here, police said on Thursday.
The neighbour’s dog allegedly charged towards her, so she picked up her own pet to protect it, but the large canine bit her on her right arm and waist, they said.
CCTV footage of the incident at Ashoka Enclave Part-2 in Sector 37 area on October 17 has also surfaced online.
According to the complaint filed by Srishti Sharma, a second-year BTech student at a private college, around 7 am on October 17, she was walking her pet Pomeranian when an off-leash German Shepherd suddenly ran towards her.
To protect her pet, she picked it up but the larger dog bit her on her right arm. She screamed to save herself, but the dog bit her again on the waist, she alleged.
“Some time later, the dog’s owner arrived at the scene and brought the animal under control. I was then taken to hospital for treatment and was discharged after being administered an anti-rabies vaccine. The incident occurred because the dog had been left unrestrained,” Sharma added in her complaint.
Following the complaint, an FIR was registered against the dog owners, Sikandar and Sushma Sharma, under sections 291 (negligence with respect to animals) and 125(a) (endangering safety) of the BNS at Sarai Khawaja police station on Thursday, police said.
“These sections provide for legal action in cases where a dog is left unrestrained due to negligence, resulting in injury to someone. Under Section 291, the offence is punishable by up to 6 months of imprisonment, a fine of Rs 5,000, or both.
“Similarly, Section 125(a) provides for a penalty of up to six months of imprisonment, a fine of Rs 5,000, or both, in cases involving the infliction of injury,” said Inspector Rakesh Kumar, SHO of Sarai Khawaja police station. PTI COR ARB
