New Delhi: The ruling BJP was split over allegations of drug abuse in Bollywood, with Union Minister Babul Supriyo Tuesday saying it is “grossly unfair” to paint the entire film industry as drug addict.

His remarks came a day after BJP MP Ravi Kishan said Bollywood has a drug addiction problem.

“Like in the Cricket every cricketer wasn’t involved, similarly entire Bollywood ISN’T into drugs-NO! It’s grossly unfair to say so simply because IT IS NOT TRUE!! Rather Most Stars frm Bollywood R Extremely  Disciplined•They Exercise, Diet, Study Work the hard way Hard to Success (sic)”, Supriyo said in a tweet.

“The crisis looming over Bollywood with Drugs is reminiscent of what happened to Cricket during the Betting Scandal years ago•Then the Game of Cricket Won bcuz everyone wasn’t evil – NOW Bollywood & Art shall prevail & with Glory bcuz of the Same Reason – Everyone isn’t Evil AMEN (sic),” he said.

Jaya Bachchan hits out at Ravi Kishan

Rajya Sabha MP from Samajwadi party and veteran actor Jaya Bachchan slammed Kishan without taking his name, saying some people are biting the hand that feeds them.

“Just because of a few people, you cannot tarnish the image of the entire industry… I was really embarrassed and ashamed that yesterday one of our members in the Lok Sabha, who is from the industry, spoke against the film industry. It’s a shame. Jis thaali me khaate hain usi me chched karte hain,” she said in the Rajya Sabha Tuesday, referring to Kishan’s statement in the Lok Sabha on day one of Parliament’s monsoon session.

Kishan, a BJP MP from Uttar Pradesh, who is also a popular actor of Bhojpuri films, raised the issue of drugs-related allegations that have emerged against Bollywood in actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s death case. Kishan also went on to allege a “conspiracy” by Pakistan and China to destroy India’s youth. The BJP MP also praised the efforts of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) for carrying out a “good job” in unearthing the drug mafia.

Actor Kangana Ranaut has been talking about the presence of an alleged drug mafia in Bollywood over the past few weeks, in connection with the investigation into Rajput’s death.
