BJP implementing ‘economic terrorism’ by ending competition, promoting monopolies: Kharge

New Delhi, Oct 9 (PTI) Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Friday accused the BJP of implementing economic terrorism in the country by ending competition in various sectors and imposing monopoly or duopoly instead.

In an X post in Hindi, Kharge said, “The objective of Modi ji’s economic policy is to hand over control of the economy to his favoured capitalist cronies. So that, in return, the BJP maintains its share in the profits. By ending competition and imposing monopoly and duopoly, they have only worked to fill the BJP’s coffers and have ruined the foundation of economic liberalisation.”

He said there were 13 players in the telecom sector before 2014, but now there are only three major private players.

“Look at the domestic aviation sector — before 2014, 7 players; today, only 2 major players!” he wrote, adding, “Whether it’s digital payments, cement, or food delivery apps, the government’s priority everywhere has been to eliminate competition.”

He said the MSMEs (micro, small and medium enterprises) have been shut down and youths are facing unemployment due to the BJP’s “economic terrorism”.

“The Congress Party is the mother of economic liberalisation … The BJP only implements ‘economic terrorism’ for its own profits, as a result of which MSMEs and other small and medium industries have been completely shut down, and our youth are enduring the curse of severe unemployment,” Kharge said.

The Congress chief’s remarks came after US business tycoon Elon Musk alleged that “certain oligarchs” were blocking his Starlink to protect a “monopolistic chokehold” on the Indian market. PTI SKC 1.0.0 RUK

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
