Patna, Sep 27 (PTI) The Special Task Force of Bihar Police has constituted a dedicated cell to crack down on the notorious Kodha gang involved in several crimes within and outside the state, officials said.
Kodha is a block in Bihar’s Katihar district from where the gang operates. They are mainly involved in crimes such as cash loot, bank robbery, dacoity and theft in big jewellery shops. Its network is spread across West Bengal, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Maharashtra.
Police officials from these states frequent the Kodha police station in search of gang members.
The cell has compiled photographs, names, addresses and family details of gang members, and probe agencies can contact the cell to verify the identity and addresses of suspects, the Special Task Force (STF) said in a statement on Sunday.
It said the initiative has already helped identify accused in several cases linked to the gang in Bihar and other states and crack cases.
The force said if any member of the Kodha gang commits any crime anywhere, the Bihar STF’s Kodha Cell can be contacted to identify the accused. This will go a long way in detecting criminals and solving crimes.
“Members of the Kodha gang are still active here, but their numbers have declined considerably. Some senior members of the gang train their children in these activities,” Pankaj Anand, the SHO of Kodha Police Station, told PTI on Sunday.
The officer said that around 50 members of the gang could be active. “We keep a close watch on the activities of suspected villagers and nab them if we get concrete evidence against them,” the SHO said. PTI PKD NSD
