Patna, May 12 (PTI) A total of 97.96 per cent of the 6,086 electorate on Tuesday voted in the by-election to the Bhojpur-cum-Buxar Local Authorities Constituency of the Bihar legislative council, officials said.
The seat was vacated by Radha Charan Sah, who resigned from the MLC post after he won from the Sandesh constituency in the 2025 assembly elections.
According to a statement issued by the Election Department of the state government, voting began at 8 am, and 97.96 per cent of the electorate exercised their franchise by the end of polling at 4 pm.
The figures are provisional.
Observer Rajiv Roshan remained present during the polling process, the statement said.
Counting of votes will begin at 8 am on May 14 at the Government Girls’ Plus Two High School in Ara, it said.
The voting process was completed peacefully, and no untoward incident was reported, officials said.
A total of 6,086 electors were eligible to exercise their franchise in the by-election, they said.
Kanhaiya Prasad of the JD(U), Sonu Kumar Rai of the RJD, and independent candidates Kanhaiya Prasad, Niranjan Kumar Rai, Manoj Kumar Upadhyay and Lalu Prasad Yadav are in the fray. PTI SUK RBT
