Vaishali, Jul 12 (PTI) An Army personnel and his father were allegedly shot dead over a land dispute in Bihar’s Vaishali district on Sunday, officials said.

Police suspect that a few relatives of the deceased might have been behind the killing, they said.

The incident occurred in Bidupur police station area of the district.

“Owing to a suspected land dispute over a pathway, the accused shot Narik Rai and his son Jitendra Kumar, who was an Army personnel. Rai died on the spot while Kumar beathed his last at Sadar hospital where he was taken for treatment,” Sadar SDPO Subodh Kumar told reporters.

Preliminary investigation revealed that some family members had allegedly blocked a pathway to the victims’ residence, leading to repeated disputes over the past few days, he said.

“Tensions had flared on Saturday night, prompting a police team to intervene and restore order. However, the dispute resurfaced on Sunday morning and culminated in firing around 200 metres from the victims’ house,” Kumar said.

Four cartridges have been recovered from the spot and the accused identified, he said.

“Further investigation is underway and efforts are on to arrest the accused at the earliest,” he added. PTI CORR SUK RBT
